  • Good, But Could Be Better

    I tried this app after using another app for years, which my then-trainer asked me to use so he could follow my eating habits in addition to my gym sessions. Pros: The My Plate app is *fairly user-friendly, clean-cut interface design, and I REALLY like the community support you can receive. Customer service was super fast and courteous in their responses to my questions. They make it easy to eat from the meal plan and if you actually ate the meal as planned, a touch of a button adds it all into your meal log. Ditto for exercise. Super! I loved this feature. It also inputs exercise picked up by your device (iPhone in my case). Cons: If you're like many people and have food allergies, their meal plan cannot accommodate that (exception: gluten-free diet). So if you eat part of their planned meal, but substituted something, you have to input the WHOLE meal, which isn't a big deal once in a while if you're used to their system. Also, if you don't follow their workouts as instructed(such as skipping lower body but completing the upper body exercises) in order to log it correctly you need to input ALL the exercises, AND you need to know how many calories you burned doing said exercise to input it yourself. For non-gym gurus, that's really tough. Another annoyance if you're on their meal plan, it's hard to prepare your food Week 1 for work or school ahead of time - grocery list comes out Sunday, preparation instructions not until Monday morning. But once you have it, you can access all eight weeks. Lastly, I disagree with the calorie goal calculator. For my age/height/weight/gender, it calculated my intake too low(1200 calories, I calculated my BMR to be 400 calories more-this is starvation). Also, it isn't stated in the app what timeframe you can expect to reach your weight goal. If I select "lose 1.5lb a week" and input my current and goal weights, it tells me nothing(located in your profile). In the end, I found it was not as "novice" user-friendly in terms of having to input your calories burned if I didn't field follow their exercise plan. I wanted to like and use this app, but I'll be going back to my previous app. I'll still keep it to reference some of their exercises and recipes, though.

    I love using this app it has helped me so much in just the few weeks ive been using it. However after about a week it stops tracking my steps as exercise and I have to calculate my calories lost from that which Im sure is a lot less accurate than how the app does it.

    This is seriously sad! I wanted to use this app to make sure my tube fed child is getting enough calories and all her nutrition. I make blended food for her and was wanting to try new recipes. And apparently you have to either be gaining or losing weight, you can’t maintain weight, and oh can’t track for a child?! Sad! Do better!

    This app is good, but I happened to notice that during the donkey kicks, there was an invisible hand holding the lady’s stomach up. Don’t we need a capable trainer? Yikes. Still decent though, I guess.
  • Calorie count inaccurate

    I really loved the look and ease of this app until I realized that many of my calorie counts were inaccurate. Even with scanning the barcode on products this app was bringing up inaccurate information. Very disappointed & hope they can get that fixed.
  • Neat app but frequent glitches

    I download ‘Stepz’ last week to track my steps. I found tracking my steps so helpful that I downloaded this app on Friday to track my calories. I like the visual aspect of the dashboard, the variety of the foods already programmed on the app. While I concur with other user reviews that some info for the food items is a little off, I can work around this. However, I deleted the app twice since the initial download on Friday both have to do with interaction w/ the Stepz app. (1) I liked this app was in sync w/ the Stepz app and calculated the number of calories I burnt - but I found the calories indicated was way too high. I attempted to go in and delete the calories burnt exercising, unfortunately the number just kept increasing (no matter how many times I tried to delete the entry). I removed & then downloaded this app again. I figured entering my calories burnt manually would be a simple fix. Update (2)However, I have since deleted the app and I am weighing whether it’s worth downloading again. My issue is similar to one described in the review on March 7 (2017 or 2018) titled ‘frequent glitch.’ The Stepz app has not worked properly since I downloaded the app from Livestrong. I’ve reviewed the settings several times but the Stepz app seems to work perfectly once I delete this app. I understand this may be a ‘user’ issue but I lose tracking steps, accurately, and time dealing with this issue. If I can use it I’d give the app 5 stars. Update 3.20.2018 Thank you for the reply. I ended up removing the app altogether. I liked every feature of the myplate app. Unfortunately the Stepz app stops tracking my steps each time I downloaded the myplate app on my phone. Unsure why but maybe I’ll try to download the app down the road

    I really like how easy and fun the design of this app is. It makes it easy to track your food, water intake, exercise and your progress! Another thing I really love is the workout feature, it has multiple exercises you can do at home which only help you to achiever your goals faster. Lastly, the 8 week meal-plans available are great; lots of good, new recipes to try out. Overall this app is fantastic!!
